Pi Day -- Science Public Lecture -- March 14, 2026 at 1: 30 pm MST -- Details in the attached poster

In line with our tradition of recognizing and celebrating Pi Day, Alberta Tesla Wave is inviting you to join us in person, or live online, for a fascinating talk on Pain Management. We are honoured that a local Neuroscientist, Dr. Bradley Kerr, will deliver the keynote presentation on this important topic (to all of us!). This informative event will also bring to light some of the key initiatives of Nikola Tesla in the field of Medicine. And as always, the event will uncover a couple of new Tesla Tales and bring us all together with the Reception -- light meal will be served -- and many many tasty pies! Please bring your own pie creation! You might even win a door prize! This event is suitable for all inquisitive minds including the young ones!

About the Keynote Speaker

Dr. Bradley Kerr is a Professor and the Director of Research, Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the University of Alberta.  Dr. Kerr obtained his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of London-King’s College in the UK. His postdoctoral work was carried out at the California Institute of Technology and at McGill University with his work focusing on studying inflammatory responses after nervous system injury. The key research in his lab is aimed at addressing the mechanisms of chronic pain after injury or disease with a major focus on chronic pain associated with Multiple Sclerosis.

Abstract of the Talk

In this talk Dr. Kerr will describe the importance of pain in our lives, its evolutionary significance and why it's actually a gift (although one we often want to return!). He'll talk about the specialised pathways that carry pain signals and look at how our brains bring together all of these signals to produce the sensation of pain in what is often called the pain 'matrix'. He'll discuss some strategies, including the recently developed ones, to treat pain.

Poster Above -- This event is open to the Public. Please feel free to forward this message onto your colleagues and friends. We expect (online) participants across Canada and several from Europe too. For the local (in person) attendees,  we would appreciate getting your RSVP as the seating capacity is limited. This will also assist us in planning the reception.

Thank you and see you on March 14th!
